More goodness.
Diversity. Flavour. Health
Goodness Flour is closing.
After much thought, we’ve decided that it’s the end of the road for Goodness Flour. We have grain and equipment available for sale and have shared recommendations for other excellent flour suppliers. Please read our full letter below.
Firstly, a huge thank you for all the beautiful messages we’ve received. The love, care and support have been extraordinary and both Paul and I are deeply grateful.
The January fire really was devastating for Harcourt. We’re acutely aware of the impact it’s had on many of our neighbours and friends. Yes, we lost a lot but overall, we’ve been incredibly fortunate.
The last few months have been quite surreal – exhausting, overwhelming and uplifting – all together on some days. One of the things we have valued most has been the opportunity to pause, take stock and appreciate the good things in our lives. We’ve had long, happy conversations about what really matters to each of us, and what we want our lives to be from here on. There have been a few tears, lots of laughter and a good dose of optimism about the future. We’re conscious that not everyone gets to make choices about setting the course of their lives. It’s a privilege we acknowledge with gratitude.
Goodness Flour has been a joy. We’ve made so many good friends, been surrounded by laughter and the joy of baking and we’ve made a contribution to acknowledging farmers who are doing excellent work. We’ve seen first-hand how extraordinarily hard they work to produce the best quality grain, grown in healthy soils brimming with microbial life. Being a small-scale producer in today’s world is a labour of love and we honour the effort, commitment and resilience. Nothing short of bloody marvellous!
To our fabulous Goodness customers, thank you for joining us in the love of real food. I believe it’s the single most important thing we can do to build a brighter future for the next generation and your support of Goodness has filled us with hope.
Thank you also to Lise, Louise, Alison and Elly who joined me in teaching classes. We had so much fun sharing the joy of wholegrain baking. You were so generous in sharing your skills and time. I learnt so much from each of you and we had such a beautiful response from those who came to our classes. A huge thanks to each and every one of you.
And so, on to new adventures!
We have some beautiful grains in our freezer for sale. You’ll find them listed on the website www.goodnessflour.com.au/shop First in, best dressed.
We also have some equipment for sale including several Mockmill Pro mills, a VW Caddy van, walk-in freezer, a commercial mixer, a Robot Coupe, a chest freezer, filling machines, a steam oven, a mechanical sifter, packaging and food grade bins. Just drop me an email and I’ll send a full list with prices.
If you don’t want to start milling and you’re looking for excellent quality wholegrain flour and grain, there are a couple of good options:
Woodstock Flour www.woodstockflour.com.au Ian and Courtney are extraordinary humans, who also happen to produce excellent flour. They’re generous, supportive and wise. Check out their classes too. Well worth a trip to Rutherglen.
Tuerong Farm www.tuerongfarm.com.au Jason and Emma have done so much to bring heritage grains back into production in Australia. They produce an excellent range of flours. Loads to explore for all kinds of baking adventures. They run great classes too.
Urbanstead Pippa and Michael James, two awesome humans who have mentored and supported so many in the Grainz community, are also running classes at their beautiful new space in Abbotsford. You’ll find more information here www.urbanstead.au
Sovereign Foods www.sovereignfoods.com.au I know it’s a long way from Brisbane to Victoria, but Thor and his team, have excellent storage facilities (this is REALLY important when you’re working with chemical free grain!), they have strong relationships with their farmers, and they offer a good range in bulk. They’re great people to work with.
Green Goes the Grocer in Castlemaine www.greengoesthegrocer.com.au Eva and her team have an excellent relationship with the Biodynamic Marketing Company. They’re always happy to help with bulk supplies.
I’ve added the Goodness Vanilla, Chocolate and Gluten-free Cake recipes to the website. Keep baking. Share the love. And share the story of why this is important.
With much love and every good wish to each and every one of you.
Liesl.

Goodness Flour. Welcome.
Small batch flour, freshly milled from organic grain.
Smell, taste and feel the difference. All the goodness of wholegrains, with nothing taken out and nothing added in. Unlike commercial flour, milled on large steel rollers, these are complete grains – germ, bran and endosperm. Carefully milled on stone at cool temperatures, so there’s less damage to the good fat, and more nutrients, fibre and enzymes. Complete and all in one neat package - just as nature intended.
Why wholegrain flour?
Most flour is milled on steel rollers which separate the grain at the start of the milling process. The germ and bran are removed, leaving only the starchy endosperm - with calories, but very few nutrients. Many commercial ‘wholemeal’ flours are produced in the same way, with bran simply added back in at the end of the process.
Goodness Flour is different. It’s stoneground, so it retains the fibre, good oils and nutritional qualities of the wholegrain, as well as the natural enzymes to facilitate digestion. We package in small quantities – use it fresh, try different flours and enjoy experimenting!
