Hot Scotch Landrace Wheat Grain
Only available in 20kg bags. This is unmilled grain, not flour. Best Before 1.6.2027.
The grain has been carefully stored in our freezer - no chemicals used in the growing, harvesting or storage of the grain, so this is the safest way to ensure it stays fresh and weevil free.
This grain is particularly special. Meet Hot Scotch Landrace Wheat. A genetically diverse blend of wheat from the Burrum Biodynamics Heritage Grain Trials.
Starting in 2020 with a handful of each variety from the Genebank in Horsham, Tania and Steve (Burrum Biodynamics) have carefully selected the best varieties from their Heritage Grain Trials.
Named in honour of John Reid, this is a blend of 1051 Purple Abyssinian, 1052 Purple Grain, 1053 Purple Kernel, Triticum aethiopicum and AUS Wheat.
Landrace wheats are locally adapted, genetically diverse populations of wheat. Historically, they evolved through traditional farming practices and selection by local farmers. The blend naturally varies from season to season in response to soil conditions, weather and farming methods. Hot Scotch Landrace will evolve over time as these factors influence the growth, selection, and preservation of certain biological traits over others.
Dark, interesting with a gorgeous depth of flavour and a rich sweetness. Reminiscent of rye, it’s unlike anything we’ve tried. Perfect in fruit loaves. Watch it carefully, it can overprove quickly.
